OpenAI recently launched ChatGPT Pulse, a proactive search app that delivers personalized updates based on chats, feedback, and connected apps. This new feature from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman makes ChatGPT more effective at helping users with actual needs by anticipating needs through a proactive approach.

But how does it work? ChatGPT Pulse uses artificial intelligence to analyze users' conversations throughout the night, as well as any remaining interactions in memory. This allows the chatbot to generate updates that will be displayed the next day.

OpenAI stated on its official blog that "This is the first step toward a more helpful ChatGPT that proactively delivers what's needed, helping you progress toward revival. ChatGPT can now conduct asynchronous investigations."

As mentioned, ChatGPT gathers information from memory, conversation history, and direct feedback each night to determine what's most relevant to users. The next day, it sends personalized, targeted updates, such as follow-up topics, meal ideas, or exercise plans. OpenAI also notes that the update is only available for that day unless you save it as a conversation or ask a follow-up question, which adds it to your conversation history.

Additionally, users can connect Gmail and Google Calendar to provide additional context and more relevant suggestions. When connected to Calendar, ChatGPT can create a meeting reminder or offer restaurant recommendations for an upcoming trip. However, it's important to note that these integrations are disabled by default and can be enabled or disabled at any time in Settings.

Users can also request that ChatGPT perform daily user searches. To do so, they can tap "Select" to request what they'd like to see in future releases. Remember that over time, suggestions can become more useful and personalized with quick feedback, such as likes or dislikes.

Regarding availability, ChatGPT Pulse is currently only available to Pro version users on mobile devices. However, Altman is working on implementing this new feature in the Plus version, with the goal of making it available to everyone.
